An excellent opportunity is available for a Data Analyst / Data Engineer to join a NSW Government agency and support high-impact data initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
We are seeking a hands-on Data Analyst with very strong SQL skills and proven experience working with large datasets, data extraction, data cleansing, data wrangling, and data analysis. This role will suit someone who enjoys turning raw data from various sources into meaningful insights and is confident working across complex data sources.
Candidates who are available immediately or can commence within 1 week will be highly regarded.
Essential skills and experience:
- Demonstrated experience as a Data Analyst or Data Engineer
- Advanced SQL skills with strong capability in data extraction, query writing, data manipulation and data wrangling
- Experience working with large datasets and complex data structures
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including working with large spreadsheets, formulas, lookups, pivots and data analysis
- Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, high-quality outputs
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain data clearly to stakeholders
Nice to have experience:
- Exposure to statistical modelling
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) analytics tools
- GIS / spatial data experience i.e. Ezri
- Experience with BigQuery
- Python coding experience for data analysis or automation
Key responsibilities:
- Extract, analyse and manipulate large and complex datasets using SQL
- Preparation of data which will be used for Geospatial / Ezri view purposes
- Perform data wrangling, data cleansing and data validation to support reporting and analysis
- Interpret data and identify trends, issues and opportunities to support business decision-making
- Prepare datasets for analysis, reporting and operational use
- Develop and maintain Excel-based analysis, reporting and data models where required
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver accurate insights
- Support data quality improvement initiatives across multiple data sources
