NSW Department of Customer Service, Contract Opportunity

A temporary opportunity has become available for a proactive and commercially minded Finance Business Partner to join the NSW Telco Authority (NSWTA) Finance team within the Department of Customer Service.

This role is ideal for a finance professional with strong management accounting and FP&A experience, who enjoys working closely with senior stakeholders and translating financial information into meaningful business insights. NSW Government experience is highly desirable.

About the role

As the Finance Business Partner, you will manage financial and management accounting services across allocated business units. You will play a key role in the development and implementation of financial plans, savings initiatives and strategies, while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and government financial obligations.

You will also contribute to the ongoing improvement of financial policies, procedures, reporting practices, labour cost analysis and financial systems across the organisation.
  
Key requirements and personal attributes

  • 2+ years’ experience in Finance Business Partnering, FP&A or Commercial Finance
  • Experience across labour cost analysis / Opex analysis
  • Strong financial analysis and management accounting capability
  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or CA preferred, but not mandatory
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • SAP finance experience highly regarded
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage non-finance stakeholders
  • Proven problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Proactive, self-motivated individual with a “can-do” attitude
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • NSW Government experience highly desirable

  
Key accountabilities

  • Act as the primary finance contact for allocated business units, building trusted relationships with Directors and leadership teams
  • Provide financial advice and analysis to support business unit initiatives and decision-making
  • Prepare and deliver timely management reports, submissions and financial performance analysis
  • Translate financial data into clear business narratives, insights and recommendations
  • Analyse expenditure, identify cost drivers and investigate variances against budget and forecast
  • Provide financial and costing analysis to support approvals and assess commercial viability
  • Assist with the preparation of business cases, briefing notes and other financial reports to ensure accuracy and on-time submission
