Fair Trading Digital is delivering a multi-year Digital Modernisation Strategy, and we’re searching for a high-calibre Salesforce Technical Engineer (Principal Engineer) to drive the technical build of a new enterprise CRM/BPM platform.
If you bring strong CRM expertise (Salesforce or Pega), solid integration knowledge (MuleSoft), and hands-on delivery experience — along with skills in workflow automation and business process improvement — this is your opportunity to lead engineering squads on a program of state-wide impact.
You’ll set technical direction for one of two major projects, partnering closely with the Program Principal Solution Architect, Data Architect, product leaders, and cross-functional delivery teams.
This role blends deep technical design, hands-on engineering oversight, squad leadership, and complex platform delivery.
What You Bring
- Strong CRM platform experience (Salesforce or Pega)
- Integration knowledge — MuleSoft highly regarded
- Hands-on engineering background with delivery of modern CRM, BPM or workflow platforms
- Understanding of workflow automation, AI-enabled processes, orchestration, and BPM practices
- Experience in new platform builds, application cutovers and complex system rollouts
- Prior leadership of engineering squads in an Agile environment
- Excellent communication, documentation and cross-functional collaboration
- Autonomous working style with a focus on speed, quality and technical excellence
- Experience with Agile and Sprints
What You’ll Be Doing
Application Design & Engineering Direction
- Define and maintain the end-to-end application architecture for the new CRM/BPM platform
- Design data models, scalable integration patterns, and technical solution options
- Ensure accessibility, security, scalability, and resilience are built into the platform
- Collaborate with architects and technical leads across the broader organisation
Agile Product Development
- Support Product Managers and BAs to shape epics, user stories, backlogs and release plans
- Clarify requirements, estimate development effort and plan testing activities
- Coach engineers, allocate tasks, and perform detailed code reviews
- Drive modern engineering practices within and beyond Agile ceremonies
Risk, Quality & Engineering Governance
- Identify and mitigate technical risks early
- Oversee dependent technical work involving vendors or internal platforms
- Ensure architectural consistency, code quality and compliance with standards
- Lead defect triage, troubleshooting and technical decision tracking
Team Leadership & Delivery Velocity
- Lead up to three engineering squads with a focus on delivery excellence
- Recruit, onboard and develop engineers
- Maintain engineering velocity and quality across design, build and integration
- Foster a positive team culture built on autonomy, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Stakeholder & Vendor Engagement
- Serve as the main technical representative for your project
- Communicate system design decisions, trade-offs and direction clearly across teams
- Partner with vendor technical teams to ensure alignment and delivery quality
Transition, Cutover & Decommissioning
- Lead cutover planning, data migration and technical readiness activities
- Ensure smooth transition away from legacy systems
- Contribute to hypercare and establish long-term support processes
- Ability to adapt to NSW Government processes (prior experience not essential)
